A trend-setter and visionary in the luxury hospitality industry, Michael G. Tompkins began his 20-year career as a Registered Nurse and transitioned to hospitality at Canyon Ranch Health Resorts where he served in many executive positions.
Tompkins subsequently served as Vice President of Hotel and Spa Operations at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. During his time with the resort, he was named 2007 Executive of the Year by the New York State Hospitality Association. His key role in the overall 500 million dollar Turning Stone expansion helped earn the company two AAA Four Diamond hotels ratings. The Skana Spa, Tomkins project from concept to completion, was chosen as 2007 Best New US Spa.
Most recently, Tompkins served as Chief Executive Officer at Miraval Resorts where he was instrumental in the establishment of renowned resort projects including the Miraval Life in Balance Spa with Clarins and the Andrew Weil, M.D. Integrated Wellness Center. He also played a dominant role in facilitating the completion of development at The Villas at Miraval, now one of the fastest selling, luxury lifestyle real estate projects in the country. Tompkins helped catapult the Miraval brand to unprecedented industry heights, the name now recognized as a world leader in spa innovation.
Current Chairman of the International Spa Association (ISPA) board, Tompkins has spoken extensively as a spa and wellness expert. He helped found the New York Spa Promotion Alliance and has served on its board for three years.
Tompkins recently transitioned from destination spa brands to the wellness lifestyle movement with his new role as Co-CEO of PALM Health. He has written a novel and is a contributing author on four other books about Health and Wellness. In addition, he is a member of the University of Arizona Science/Biosphere 2 Board, a think tank consultant to the Los Angeles film company Moving Art, and consults at Huffman Hospitality.
